Bahaar Foundation

Creating Sustainable Livelihoods and Health Access in Rural Punjab

Bahaar Foundation is implementing the CHE program across Punjab in collaboration with Punjab Development Commission (PDC – a government advisory body), in alignment with PDC’s intent to advance women’s livelihoods and build healthier, empowered communities across rural Punjab. The project has kicked off with 100 CHEs (locally referred to as Sehat Sevikas) in Rupnagar district in January 2026, and within a few months will move into rapid roll out to set up CHEs across Punjab over the next two years.

In Punjab, Bahaar Foundation is building a strong foundation for the long-term sustainability of Sehat Sevikas (CHEs) through a comprehensive support ecosystem. This includes certified training accredited by the Healthcare Sector Skills Council, with technical inputs from Portea Medical and certified CPR training providers.

Sehat Sevikas are also enabled through the SAATH technology platform—a custom-designed, regulation-compliant system that supports customer and workflow management, digital learning, and telehealth services. In addition, Bahaar Foundation provides ongoing mentorship, peer learning networks, and structured community engagement support to help Sehat Sevikas establish trusted health services within their villages.

The program works in close alignment with government systems in Punjab, supporting mobilization, training, ecosystem linkages, referrals, follow-ups, and participation in public health campaigns. Strategic partnerships with mission-aligned organizations further enable Sehat Sevikas to connect rural communities with affordable, high-quality healthcare products and services, while building sustainable women-led livelihoods across the state.
