The second wave of the pandemic unfortunately demonstrated the huge challenges of Indian healthcare infrastructure across the board – rural and urban, private and public, rich and the poor. It became evident that there is an urgent need to build new solutions and platforms not just to cope with new healthcare demands, but also to provide continuous and sustainable solutions even at the last mile.
The Community Healthcare Entrepreneur (CHE) program envisions an India where communities become healthcare resilient and have access to quality affordable healthcare.
Through this program, we aim to support and enable the government and communities in their endeavour to:
- Create local healthcare entrepreneurs who will be trained, equipped, supported and monitored to help their communities for basic healthcare needs
- Create a self-sustaining model to enable women to earn sustainable incomes while serving the community
- Work alongside the government to supplement, augment and enhance health and wellness infrastructure and delivery in rural and semi-urban areas
We equip our Community Health Entrepreneur with the skills, knowledge and confidence to provide essential healthcare services, referrals and support to their communities. It is heartening to see them become role models and agents of change – breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes, and encouraging health seeking behaviour. Our current cohort of Community Health Entrepreneurs in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, have established themselves as credible and trusted healthcare resources, working tirelessly to provide and enable preventive, treatment and maintenance health services to the community.
